San Antonio—Let’s face it, hair loss is a sensitive issue where treatments involving topical chemicals or surgery are not only embarrassing, they often lead to painful side effects.

Institute for Women’s Health is announcing a pain-free alternative, as it is the first San Antonio business to offer the FDA-cleared Sunetics Clinical Hair Growth Laser. The Stone Oak office at 18707 Hardy Oak is now accepting appointments for laser treatments.

Non-invasive, Sunetics lasers emit light that is “cool to the touch,” treating hair loss at the cellular level by rejuvenating hair follicles.

“This is a service that our patients have been inquiring about for some time,” said Dr. Wendy Askew. “After researching a number of technologies, we chose the FDA-cleared Sunetics laser because it is a safe and superior technology that promotes hair growth and treats hair loss.”

Prior to laser treatment, the options for treating hair loss were surgery or chemicals that can be painful and result in unwanted side effects. Sunetics works via photo-biomodulation and stimulation that initiates protein synthesis and mobilization of calcium ions within hair follicles.

Phased treatments lasting 30 minutes each take place in three phases over the course of one year:

  • Phase 1 – Twice a week for 12 weeks
  •  Phase 2 – Once a week for 12 weeks
  • Phase 3 – Twice a month for the last six months

“Patients will be comfortably seated in a chair. We then extend the laser arm over the head and begin the process,” adds Askew. “The lasers are so safe that patients can use their phone, computer, or other electronic device during treatments.”

Physiological benefits associated with the Sunetics Laser Hair Growth Therapy include: improving blood-micro circulation to the follicle, increasing nutrient acquisition by the follicle, increasing oxygen uptake, and decreasing follicle inflammation.

From a cellular perspective, the treatment can:

  • Improve cellular metabolism and protein synthesis
  • Increases the production of ATP to energize and repair the weakened follicle
  • Increases cellular stimulation of the follicle
  • Increases mobilization of calcium ions
